Amikejo

Valeska Peschke studied the History of Art and Ideas and worked as a blacksmith before she started her studies in Architecture and completed with a master degree in Fine Arts at the Berlin University of the Arts (UDK). Since 1996, she has participated in various international exhibitions. She co-founded the artist collective, Stadt im Regal, and has received numerous grants, awards and residencies. She was a guest professor at the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, USA, and the Dresden College of Visual Arts, Germany (HfbK Dresden).

The artwork of Valeska Peschke is based on ideas and their semblances, referring to fictional or ideal place, time and context. Her themes comprise the essence of architecture, urban planning, the substance of transformation, mobility, behaviors, memory and mapping.

 

Peschke begann 1987 Kunst- und Geistesgeschichte am The Principia College, Illinois zu studieren. Anschließend machte sie eine Ausbildung zur Kunstschmiede, bevor sie an der Hochschule der Künste (UdK) Berlin das Studium zur Architektur antrat und Bildende Kunst als Meisterschülerin beendete. Seit 1996 nimmt sie an internationalen Ausstellungen teil. Sie ist Mitbegründerin der KünstlerInnengruppen „Stadt im Regal“ und „Salon 808“. Unter anderem erhielt sie Stipendien für Forschung und Kunst des Berliner Senat (1996), für „Research and Culture“ des Pasadena Art Center, USA (1997–98), der Villa Aurora (2000)[1], dem „Headlands Center for the Arts“ in New York, dem „Artist in Residence at Djerassi“, Kalifornien (2002) und für das „Sirius Art Center“ in Cork, Irland (2002). Darüber hinaus wurde als Gastprofessorin an das Art Center College of Design, Pasadena, USA, und an die Hochschule für Bildende Künste, Dresden, berufen.
