Tanzen verbindet, öffnet die Herzen und durchbricht Sprachbarrieren. Unterschiedliche Orte Hellersdorfs werden für Anwohner_innen und Besucher_innen in einen offenen Tanzplatz verwandelt und temporär zum Treffpunkt für internationale Geselligkeit. Getanzt werden Kettentänze, Paarkreistänze und Mitmach-Tänze.

Am 13. April eröffnet die IGA Berlin 2017. Fünf Tage zuvor eröffnet die nGbK gleich nebenan die Saison auf dem Place Internationale - dem künstlerischen Aktionsfeld des Kunstprojektes Mitte in der Pampa auf der Grünfläche am U-Bhf. Cottbusser Platz. Hier und an anderen Orten entlang der U-Bahnlinie 5 werden seit September 2016 die Begriffe ›International‹, ›Garten‹ und ›Ausstellung‹ aus unterschiedlichen Perspektiven untersucht und hinterfragt.

 

Hintergrundinformation zu den künstlerischen Workshops »Teilhabe und Governance«:

Die Namensgebung Place Internationale geschah in Anlehnung an ein historisches Ereignis: Am 16. Mai 1871 wurde auf dem Platz Vendôme in Paris die Siegessäule Napoleons durch die Kommunarden gestürzt. Der Maler Gustave Courbet hatte den Denkmalsturz während der aufständischen Zeit der Pariser Commune maßgeblich initiiert. Der Platz wurde feierlich in »Place Internationale« umgetauft: Paris erlebte eine Revolution der Stadt.

 

Der Place Internationale in Hellersdorf wird mit einer künstlerischen Rekonstruktion der Siegessäule markiert. In den vergangenen Monaten wurde das Thema der Vendome Säule in unterschiedlicher Form zeichnerisch, malerisch, philosophisch, skulptural, performativ und theatralisch in künstlerischen Workshops mit dem Titel »Teilhabe und Governance« erarbeitet. Gemeinsam mit jungen Menschen und Erzieher_innen aus dem benachbarten Jugendclub U5 und mit Schüler_innen der Klassen 8a und 8b des Melanchthon-Gymnasiums entstanden verschiedene Ansätze, die zur Gestaltung der Säule und des Sockels führten. Sie beschäftigten sich mit dem französischem Maler Gustave Courbet, Kommunen, Revolution, Individuum, Staat und Gemeinschaft. Ihr Farbkonzept für den Sockel basiert auf den unterschiedlichen Farbnuancen menschlicher Haut. Für das Szenenband der Säule haben sich die Schüler_innen fotografisch inszeniert.

 

Zu den Veranstaltungen von Mitte in der Pampa wird die Säule aufgerichtet und gestürzt

The International Garden Exhibition (IGA) Berlin 2017 opens on 13th April. Five days earlier, the nGbK opens its program 500 meters away on Place Internationale – the name given by the organisors to the main location for The Middle in Nowhere in 2017 on green open land at Cottbusser Platz Underground Station. Since September 2016, artists have been examining and questioning the terms ›International‹, ›Garden‹ und ›Exhibition‹ from various perspectives here and at other locations along the U5 line.

 

»Place Internationale« is a direct reference to the renaming of Place Vendôme in „Place Internationale“ on the occasion of the toppling of Napolean’s victory column on the square by Gustave Courbet and the Communards in Paris on 16th May 1871. Courbet organised a democratic vote on the future of the column and laid out manure and hay to soften its fall. Paris underwent a revolution of the city.

 

Hellersdorf’s »Place Internationale« will be marked with an artistic reconstruction of the column and will function as a public location for collaborations with local partners. Local young people from the Jugendclub U5 and the Melanchthon School have been working on the design of the column reconstruction since September 2016 with artists from the organisational team and the artists Ulrike Dornis, Martin Eggenfellner, Katja Renner, Zuzanna Skiba und Ole Tietjen. In a series of artistic workshops called “Participation and Governance“ they have looked at Gustave Courbet, the Communards, revolution, the individual, the State and the community. They have developed a colour concept for the column’s pedestal using the many nuances of human skin colour and a photographic concept for the pictorial stories on the column featuring themselves in political reenactments.

 

The column will be erected and toppled at events during “The Middle in Nowhere”.

 

The artists Ellen Nonnenmacher and Eva Randelzhofer start this year’s program on 8th April with their »Wildwuchs & Ordnung« project. They will collect and sow seeds together with residents and place self-made plant containers at places where nature has recently been destroyed by building projects. The containers are markers which stand for collective, bottom-up urban planning.

 

At 5:30 pm there will be a discussion about new interpretations of the term „Social Green Space“ for Hellersdorf with Marco Clausen, Frauke Hehl, Karin Scheel, Marco Alexander Hosemann and the resident initiative Bürgerinitiative Kienberg-Wuhletal. Decisions made in Council offices in the city centre have led to a major infrastructural project „in the sticks“ whose legitmacy is questionable for many residents. The Kienberg Hill, officially protected land, has been fenced off and turned into a huge IGA building site since 2014, causing much local protest. Additionally residents fear significant rises in rental prices caused by the marketing of the area which comes with such an event. The last International Garden Exhibition in 2013 in Hamburg’s poor Wilhemsburg borough triggered typical gentrification and offers lessons that should be learnt.

 

The Middle in Nowhere is the title of the international open Art in the Underground competition on Berlin’s Underground network in 2016 and 2017. It asks questions spatially, socially and politically about how decisions are made in the ‘centre’ that have an effect ‘in the sticks’. Eight artworks will be realised along the U5 and U55 lines mainly on the Hellersdorf housing estate in the outskirts.
